Maison Margiela, originally known as Maison Martin Margiela, is a luxury fashion brand established in 1988 by Belgian designer Martin Margiela and Jenny Meirens. It is based in Paris. The brand offers both haute couture-inspired artisanal collections and ready-to-wear lines, with the former influencing the latter’s designs. Its product offerings include womenswear, menswear, jewelry, footwear, accessories, leather goods, perfumes, and home goods. Maison Margiela is renowned for its deconstructive and avant-garde style, often using unconventional materials. The brand has a history of hosting fashion shows in unique locations like empty metro stations and street corners. Models’ faces are often hidden by fabric or long hair to focus attention on the garments. Margiela stepped down as creative director in 2009, and John Galliano took over the role in 2014, resigning in 2024. Glenn Martens succeeded him.
